“The team at AGI is so good about encouraging teamwork, and encouraging communication. The feeling was organic.”

Sometimes, you just need to get up, get outside, and do something. That’s exactly what the team at Five Acres in Altadena, CA was craving when they contacted AdVenture Games.

For 130 years, Five Acres has made it their mission to care for vulnerable children and their families and and care for the mental and emotional health of children who came to them as a result of abuse or neglect. Now, they care for more than 8,700 children and family members.

But this can be exhausting, especially when you don’t get to interact with the same team members on a regular basis.

According to Kim Hutchings from Five Acres, their team building goal was to, “get our staff to have more interaction with other staff members that they don’t typically have activities with. Kind of like like cross-pollinating a little bit.”

Then we told them about Camp Basics.

Our Camp Basics program is an active, Olympic-style, summer camp-inspired lawn event that emphasizes strategy-building, teamwork, and communication where compete head-to-head against each other in an array of fun physical challenges. Camp Basics engages participants’ athletic and communication skills in a fun, high-energy atmosphere. Participants hone their creativity and time-management acumen as they work together to meet the demands of each challenge.

“The team at AGI is so good about encouraging teamwork, encouraging communication, and really making it a fun activity where people didn’t feel under pressure. The feeling was organic.”

Kim and the team at Five Acres had in the past put together Wellness Picnics to encourage healthy habits, however the events lacked the team building atmosphere and organization that they sought. The organized, high-energy activities of Camp Basics served as a great way to avoid a cookie cutter event.

By the end of their day of outdoor festivities, the Five Acres team left on a better, more unified foot than when they came.

“More people recognize other people that they typically wouldn’t in the agency,” Kim told us. “More camaraderie.”
